PHILANDIA

+

PHILANDIA - QUINDIO

Filandia is another of the favorite towns for visitors due to its tranquility and the beautiful architecture of the Antioquia colonization.

History says that Don Felipe Meléndez, old colonizer, founded the town in the company of several friends

The friendly character of the villagers is charming, many of them coffee growers, the first product of the municipality and the forging motive of the culture that is lived in all its corners. The peasants, at the end of their days, congregate in the square to share experiences with insiders and outsiders

It is located north of the department by the Coffee Highway, from which you have to turn left at km 20 and then take a paved and narrow road of about 7 km. This last section is made between farms and the natural reserves of Bremen and Barbas, which at the same time create a landscape environment very striking for its greenery and fertility. The place is on a plateau, location from where you can see several of the neighboring municipalities.

CENTRAL PARK OF FILANDIA
Main destination where the natives of the town, the travelers, the muleteers and the Yipaos converge. Here are marked paths between gardens and benches, and some kiosks in which they sell refreshing natural juices, fruit salads and spatter, In the surrounding blocks you can see beautiful houses of the first settlers, there are several cafes and some restaurants.

IMMACULATE MARY TEMPLE
With some repairs, this temple was built essentially by the technique of bahareque and with cedar and laurel wood, materials that are appreciated inside and in the sequence of columns that characterize it. It stands out since 1905, the year of its foundation, next to the main park and on the seventh street.

ARCHITECTURAL ENSEMBLE
The Street of the Time Stopped, to the north of the central square, took its name because the houses that are to side and side, with the exception of the necessary arrangements, have remained in their original structure and appearance. Together with the buildings that stand in the stables of the central square, these traditional houses are considered a valuable example of the Antioquia legacy that prevailed in the foundation of the villages. The Bethlemitas College also stands out with its extensive corridors and balconies, the institution is a true reflection of the architectural style imposed by the former colonizers. The Architectural Route, of which Filandia is part, is a tour of the municipalities of Calarcá, Salento and Pijao that the visitor should not miss.

Beef and different kinds of fish are dishes that are usually offered in the restaurants of the department thanks to the raising of cattle and the cultivation in some areas of trout and mojarra.

And naturally, the famous coffee has ceased to be served only in the version of red (black coffee) or pintdito (with a little milk), since its exquisite and smooth flavor led to the Quindians explaining themselves in the creation of all kinds of rich sensations which include hot and cold drinks, as well as desserts, cookies, ice cream, arequipes and the exquisite coffee cream; It consists of a combination of cream, unflavored gelatin and instant coffee.
